Votive Candles
With so many candle varieties in the market today, it does not come as a surprise why so many people find it such a great challenge to find the right one for them.
Votive candles are a popular choice for most people. This is because votive candles have the versatility that no other type of candle has. A votive candle may be used as an effective luminary or may be displayed as a fine work of art. Their versatility includes the votive candle holders as well. Those that are easily available on market shelves may be used to house votive candles that are often serve as accents for tabletops or wall sconces. Furthermore, a votive candle holder is not restricted to a single shape, size, and design. With the large collection of beautiful candle holders, your votives will certainly live up to their being versatile.
Votive candles are the short and stout candles that you see on the shelves. They usually range from two to four ounces, and each requires a holder that is just about the same size and height. One other thing that the votive candle is proud of is the convenience it brings. Because they are shorter than the other types of candles, they are very practical to use anywhere. Moreover, since votive candles are traditionally burned inside votive glasses, they are a lot safer and demand lesser maintenance. You only need to trim the wick occasionally and your votives are sure to work fine.
No one will argue about the votives’ popularity. In fact, when you visit different homes, you will notice that all of them practically have votive candles in the house. Another reason for their interest in the votive candles is also likely due to these candles’ appeal. The votives can have various physical characteristics. Look around different candle shops and you’ll be amazed at how varied votive candles can be.
If you wish to make your own votives, you won’t find it hard at all. There are no boundaries as to the design and style you wish your votives to have. You can play around with different molds, sized, shapes, and scents. All votive candles need containers. And since they are created from low-melt waxes, they should fit snugly into their containers to give them the maximum burning power. Because votives look best on tabletops, you want to really pay particular attention to aesthetics and fragrance. After all, you wouldn’t want a foul-smelling candle on that nice tabletop, would you?
While it is a fact that no other type of candle can do justice to a tabletop’s physical appeal, it is also true that some people find it hard to clean up the mess in the votive candle holder after the votive candle has burned out. To avoid doing an arduous task, just keep the holder inside the refrigerator for a couple of hours before scooping out the spilled wax. Also, if you’re using metallic holders, make sure you rub some oil on the insides before putting in the candles.
Another common problem that some people may encounter with the votive candles is the cracked containers that the candles are placed in. You can actually avoid having this issue if you extinguish your votives when there’s only around ½” of wax left. Also, check that the flame does not touch the sides of the glass. Votive candles are not “compatible” with all types of furniture. Thus, use trivets or any heat-resistant material, before putting your votives on furniture.
To give your homemade votive candles their maximum burning time, make sure that the wick reaches the bottom of the wax and that it is straight. When you extinguish the wick, dip the wick into the melted pool of wax instead of just blowing it. Straighten the wick back up after extinguishing. This will make lighting a lot easier the next time. Plus, the lesser the mess – the better.
