Pillar Candles

There may be several types of candles nowadays, but nothing can beat the popularity of the pillar candles. This particular type is basically the most common and most-used one. You can practically see pillar candles in the homes of those who love to have candles around. But what exactly makes them so popular?

One of the main reasons why pillar candles are well-loved is because they can be easily coordinated with just about any home décor. Pillar candles come in various colors and sizes. Like all other candles, they too can have different scents. Fragranced pillar candles are perfect as home accessories and can accentuate any occasion. For those who’d rather not let these exude any fragrance, there are unscented pillar candles available as well. This type is highly-advisable to those who have scent allergies.

Lighting the pillar candles won’t pose any problem at all. Unlike the jar candles which need a special lighter when the wax level goes way down the jar, pillar candles are convenient to light because their wicks are exposed all the time.

Pillar candles are big candles that do not necessitate the use of candle holders. They are simply made to stand by themselves on the floor. Some people opt to place them inside soup plates in different sizes. This is to prevent the melted wax from dripping or spilling on the floor. In case of spilled wax on the floor, make sure that you attempt to remove it after it has solidified. Simply cover the spilled wax with brown paper while pressing over with a hot iron. The brown paper will absorb the spilled wax on the floor.

There is one thing to remember though when burning a pillar candle. When you burn a pillar candle, it is recommended that you leave it burning long enough for the wax to make a pool about the size of the candle’s diameter. This is to make sure that your pillar candle will burn evenly every time you it is lit. If the wax doesn’t create a pool that’s large enough, your candle will have a tunnel through it, or will eventually melt on one side. Furthermore, it won’t emit as much light as it is supposed to.

To get the most out of your pillar candles, make sure that you place them around three to five inches away from each other so that when they are lit, they will not melt one another because of their heat.

Even if pillar candles do not require the use of candle holders, they do need some kind of base to stand on. There are people who insist on using candle holders though. But since pillar candles are very solid and have widths that allow them to stand all by themselves, candle holders are not at all necessary. They can also feature multiple wicks. Although the most common ones only have one wick each like most candle types.

The nicest thing about a pillar candle is its simplicity. As self-standing candles, you can save money you otherwise would have spent on fancy holders. You can merely arrange pillar candles with varied heights and create an artistic statement.

Pillar candles have been around for a long time. They can be seen in churches as they are believed to enhance meditation. Several homes have these and since these are great interior decoration pieces, some people never even bothered lighting them.

Since candles not only illuminate our homes but provide a nice ambiance as well, it is a good idea to practice the proper “use” of candles. While blowing is the most convenient way to extinguish them, try pushing their wicks into the melted wax each time. Not only will it make re-lighting easier, but will prevent them from emitting smoke as well. Pretty clever huh?
