Candle Accessories

At present, homes are never complete without one or two candles to decorate them. And since these charming little art pieces have transitioned from mere light sources to vital home décor, it’s not such a surprise why its market has grown big over the years. In fact, Americans shell out about $2 billion a year on these fancy luminaries.

No matter what type, shape, size, and color of candles you have, they always manage to earn a place in the most visible areas in the house. Candles are wonderful home accents by themselves. But because they encourage creativity, we can make them way fancier than they actually are.

Candle accessories emphasize the candle’s beauty. There are a lot of these available in craft stores, but choosing from among the thousands of items on the shelves requires more than just a look at their tags.

Choosing a candle accessory holder would depend on the type and size of your candles. Holders should provide a snug fit but should be able to hold all the melted wax as well. Make sure that they do not easily tip over or you would have to deal with melted wax spilling everywhere.

A wick restoring tool does not sound so important but it can actually help you get the most from your candle. One of the biggest issues that people are faced with is digging the wick out after it got buried under the hardened wax. By using this tool, you won’t have to throw an otherwise perfectly good candle by properly digging the wick back out.

The jars in jar candles are excellent decorative candle accessories. However, if they are not properly used, they can become dangerous items. To ensure that your jar candles serve well, do not put them near easily combustible materials such as curtains. Also, never let the candle burn until the bottom. Makes sure there’s about ½” of unburned wax in the glass. If you want to use the remaining wax, you can simply pry it from the jar and burn it in a tart warmer. If you intend to recycle or reuse the jar, do not pry wax from its sides. The instruments may scratch the glass and may eventually cause it to shatter.

Keeping the candle wicks trimmed will ensure that the candle will burn to its maximum potential. A regularly-trimmed wick also prevents accidents. A wick trimmer will do the job of keeping the wick to just about ¼ of an inch. This length will prevent the candle from emitting too much smoke but will make it burn more consistently instead.

Unless you’re extinguishing birthday cakes, blowing candles aren’t exactly the best way to snuff them out. Candle snuffers are available to correct the traditional way of putting out candle flames. Blowing the flames may cause a spray of hot wax. Using the snuffers will not only prevent this from happening, but will also enhance the burning power of your candles by keeping the wick in the middle. Candle flames are less likely to produce smoke when extinguished when these snuffers are used.

Most craft stores have huge selections of candles and accessories. But before you make a purchase, you should have a clear understanding what particular things you need to buy. Chances are, when you see the vast collection of candles and their accessories, you will become so overwhelmed that you’ll most likely end up buying what you do not need at all.

Check out the different websites online. A lot of these provide reviews and articles that may help you in your candle shopping. Even if candles are generally affordable, you really don’t want to end up spending more than necessary.
